Det. Curtis Clive Hagele
(May 13, 1940 — March 10, 1980)

Cause of death: Det. Hagele was killed by friendly fire during the apprehension of a bank robbery suspect.

Location of sign: Los Angeles Police Academy

Officer Charles Roy Rogers
(Sept. 20, 1940 — Nov. 26, 1980)

Cause of death: Officer Rogers suffered a fatal heart attack while waiting to testify in a court case.

Location of sign: On the south side of West Temple Street, between North Broadway and North Spring Street, in front of the Criminal Courts Building

Officer Steven Kenneth Alberts
(June 21, 1951 — May 31, 1981)

Cause of death: Officer Alberts died as the result of an automobile accident.

Location of sign: West side of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, just north of Magnolia Boulevard

Cause of death: Det. Williams was shot and killed while off-duty and picking up his young son at a day-care center, in retaliation for Williams’ testimony earlier that day in a robbery trial.

Cause of death: Officer Pratt was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting.

Cause of death: Det. Eckles was shot and killed while attempting to serve a search warrant.
